Sitting on the Wrong Side of the Fence
The fence is the one that exists in the mind between the buyer and the seller.
Most of us have been buyers all our lives.
From the time we got pocket money from their parents or perhaps did a small part time job, we became buyers.
It might start small with toys and as they we older is progressed to larger things and might end up with the biggest purchase of all, a house.
So all their life we have been buying and that has created in our head the mindset of a buyer.
When you start you own online business, you have to put another hat on, one of a seller.
This involves a complete change of attitude or mindset and this can be difficult for some people. If you cannot make the switch from the mindset of a buyer to one of a seller, your new online business might not even get off he ground.
When you plan to buy something, you go through a defined process. The start is usually research into the product or service you need. You might then make a decision about which one to purchase and you may do research on the best price and from where to actually buy it.
A seller goes through a completely different process.
The experienced seller knows that you have to sell into demand.
Someone has to actually need and be prepared to spend money what you plan to sell.
So the initial research will be into the market, what people need and want, what problems they need to find solutions to and what is already in the marketplace to satisfy these needs and the prices being demanded.
Only when they are sure what the market needs will they look for a product that satisfies that need, or perhaps even better create their own product that does the same job.
The means that hopefully what the product gets to the marketplace, the chance of getting sales and making money are maximised.
Because they know their product helps people ands solves their problems have, it will sell well.
So that what is comes down to, with the mindset of a seller you know what the customers want and know they’ll buy it!
A lot of people starting their online business, make error of offering for sale what they think someone might buy, not what the market is actually demanding.
Not selling what buyers actually want is one of the biggest reasons why a lot of online businesses fail – they don’t do the research in to the market.
The basic is that you must sell what people want or need in order to make money.
